Radiography for Composite NDT

Commonly referred to as "X-ray" inspection, Radiography involves passing radiation through a composite part and capturing an image on the opposite side through the phenomenon of "differential absorption". Areas with varying degrees of density and absorption image differently. Composite Inspection Solutions can provide traditional film based imaging along with the most current digital techniques and "real-time" instant viewing methods.

Radiography can be a useful solution for imaging voids, cracks, and foreign material where the feature being sought has a differing density than the surrounding composite material. It is commonly used to evaluate honeycomb sandwich structures for damaged core cells, insufficient adhesive flow or whetting, and the entrapment of foreign material during the manufacturing process. It is also useful in detecting water intrusion into core cells and impact damage for hardware that is in-service.
